Eats Week: Tim Ho Wan in Central

The last installment of Eats Week is all about Tim Ho Wan.  I've been to the Sham Shui Po Tim Ho Wan a few times.  Low and behold, there was one in Central (which is a more convenient location for me) all along!

IFC's Tim Ho Wan Info:
Location
Shop 12A
Hong Kong Station (Podium Level 1)

***It's right below the IFC Mall when you head down to Hong Kong MTR Station.  So, it is quite easy to find!

Tel.
23323078

***They don't do reservations.  Usually, you get there, ask for a number and wait for free seating.

Hours
9 am -  9pm daily

The best thing on the menu, for me, is the char siu bao.  This stuff is always the most delicious thing for me!  It's Tim Ho Wan's take on a pineapple bun stuffed with char siu (BBQed pork).  I keep thinking that this was probably the DISH THAT gave Tim Ho Wan their Michelin Star!

On the menu, I believe this dish was called the Baked Bun with BBQ Pork.

We ordered the basic dim sums that people usually order at dim sum places (please excuse my bad spelling and off translations of the dishes!:

1.  Lo Mai Gai aka Sticky Rice (the menu calls it Glutinous Rice Dumpling)

2.  Gwei Fa Go aka Osmanthus Jelly (on the menu they gave us, it was called Tonic Medlar & Petal Cake)

 3.  Char Siu Cheung Fan aka BBQed Pork Rice Roll (On the menu, it was called Vermicelli Roll Stuffed with BBQ Pork)

4.  Chiu Jiao Fun Go aka Chiu Chow-style Steamed Dumpling

Everything was delicious and I'm not saying that because I was starving by the time we got our seat!  The food was genuinely pretty good.  I really enjoyed the ambiance of the Tim Ho Wan experience.  It's so cramped in there, we had to sit at a table with 5 other parties of people, the staff were so efficient and nice, and it was overall such a great time.

There are also soft drinks and teas available to order.

Tim Ho Wan is always such a great option to eat at.  It's especially a great place to take friends and family from out of town to.  It's one of Hong Kong's best dim sum places…that appeal to the masses.  So, if you are in the IFC and hungry for dim sum, this is a great place to line up for!

Tim Ho Wan

Tim Ho Wan was the first Michellin Star restaurant I had ever been to.  A friend from Seattle actually introduced me to its amazingly delicious foods back in December.  Today was the perfect day to check it out because we just happened to be in the neighborhood.

Tim Ho Wan Info:
9 - 11 Fuk Wing Street
Sham Shui Po
8 am - 10 pm

Because there were only two of us, wait was only 10 minutes.

We got the menu while we were waiting in line, so we could tick off the items that we wanted to order. Genius process.  This way, we saved a lot of time...and there were people outside that helped us locate our favorite dim sum dishes (because we couldn't read Chinese).

***NOTE (as always):  I tried to write out the dim sums as best I could in English!***

For two girls who were starving, four dishes were enough.  It was a good lunchtime spent!
