Nursing Room @ Ikea

Another post about another nursing room!  You have been warned!

Ikea is my new addiction these days (on the weekends).  It's where I've been spending a lot of my time looking at furniture and storage (especially).

Online, a lot of people talk about the nursing room located on the showcase floor of Ikea.  It's actually one of the most comfy nursing rooms that I've been to:

1.  Quiet
2.  Comfy
3.  Filled with great Ikea's own nursery items
4.  Convenient to get to
5.  ...and Baby loved it

The space is pretty big.  It can accommodate about three babies and their mothers (maybe fathers too).  The space is good for changing, nursing, and resting…

There is also a hot/cold/cool water dispenser for thirsty people…and mixing formula.

There is the basic sink, soap and hand washing station area…AND a mirror to check yourself for spit ups…

There is also a really nice bench to put your bags or bum on.  It's a nice place to take a rest (besides sitting on the sofas in the Ikea showcase rooms…!

The actual nursing room is quite basic…it has a chair, a shelf to put your things…and a door with a lock.  I think the luxuries are probably the pillow, that you can rest your baby/arm on and the shelf, where you can put your things on.  But, pretty basic.

There are two changing tables, which I totally forgot to take a snapshot of, but you can see part of it in the images above.  I did, however, take a photo of the mobile above one of the changing tables.  I must have been so enthralled at the lovely bugs that I totally forgot about the importance of showing you all the changing tables, which, actually, may/may not be that important!

I was quite impressed with the nursery room here.  Since I've been spending most weekends at Ikea, I think that it's good to know where the nursery room is located (on the showcase floor near the escalators) and what it is stocked with (nursing room, water dispenser and changing tables!).

Ikea Day

The first time I went to Ikea was when I had moved to Seattle.  I used to think that the showrooms were amazing.  And they still are…when I moved to Beijing, I used to ride out to Ikea just to stock up on some coffee grinds.  It wasn't until I moved to Hong Kong when I started going to the Ikea Canteen and spending more than just a quick stop and shopping trip to the Mothership (as my Swedish friend called Ikea!).

We caught the bus over to the Shatin Ikea…where the store opens at 10:30 am (we got there at 10 am expecting it to be open.).  Because we were there early, we decided to just see what the Ikea Canteen had…Instead of just waiting around, we decided to sample some of the food and just hangout until the store opened.

Fun Fact:  The coffee has complimentary refills!!!!  Since I'm back at drinking coffee…it was quite nice to gulp down my morning caffeine fix.

We were at Ikea mainly to pick up storage because we're moving house.  But, we took our time just cruising the store and checking out all the cool furniture.  Here are a few of my favorites!!!

1.  I love how tables can be stackable to create space in the small spaces that we Hong Kong people live in.

2.  I love how the displays actually looked so lived in at the opening of the day…How often do the Ikea staffers remake and maintain the showrooms?  I FEEL LIKE they must do it a lot because there are always people sleeping in the beds and rearranging the showrooms!

3.  I  love these brain and eye ball designs…so different!  I like how there is something that caters to everyone!

4.  I  love these huge mosquito nets…I wish I could get one.  Then I could have a picnic outside at a park and not worry about getting bitten up by mosquitos in the summers…

5.  I love these little lanterns.  They're really nice to have in the summer as well…to light up a romantic dinner on a roof top!  …or just to decorate the house for a party.  These are really nice to have!

6.  I also love these Japanese lantern bulb covers.  I'm thinking, again, that they'd be nice for a summer party...

7.  Lastly, I love how Ikea has carts for wee people!  I am always impressed at how Ikea caters to everyone...

While checking out of Ikea, we also realized that there was a children's "day" care area.  This is really convenient for parents who have to make huge decisions like which bookshelf to get and how to arrange shipping!  These decisions take time…and I KNOW FOR SURE that kids don't have that long of an attention span to wait for answers.  So, dropping the kiddos off at the "day" care area is a really great option!

***A Look At The Child Care Area***

I've only been to the Shatin Ikea, but I wonder if the Causeway Bay and Kowloon Bay Ikeas have the same Child Care area…

Another fun day at Ikea!

Wandering Around Ikea

Most times, I'm in Causeway Bay to pop into Ikea and find things to help organize my life.  There are a few Ikeas in Hong Kong, but the one that's easiest to get to, for me, is this one.  The Causeway Bay Ikea sits right along the side of Victoria Park.

How To Get Here:
1.  From Causeway Bay MTR Exit E, turn left
2.  You'll be walking along Great George Street
3.  Pass Fashion Walk on your left
4.  Pass Wellcome (supermarket) on your left
5.  You should see the IKEA sign pretty soon after (on your left)

I remember my friends and I thinking it was funny to find people sleeping on sofas and beds in the Beijing Ikea.  I have seen people resting in the chairs here as well....but not for the extended time of some other people.

This recollection actually made me wonder if there was a website out there for strange things at Ikea.

Anyhow, here are a few of the fun things I found as I made my way around the store.

1.  There are lip/mouth pillows here in the Teenage Girl section.  I thought it was such a fun idea because when I was younger, I used to be attracted to shiny, beaded pillows from Pier 1.  These are definitely quirky and, if I were younger, I would definitely consider picking one up to spruce up a chair.

2.  I actually had been looking for one of these fun, novelty tea strainers for awhile now.  At the Home Square in Shatin (where another good Ikea is located), there are shops that carry some really funky strainers:  submarines, sticks, and little men...Even when I was in Kyoto a few months back, I was looking for a unique tea strainer.  These Ikea ones are little flowers that float on top of the water.  They were pretty cute...

3.  When I saw this lamp shade, I immediately thought, "Grandma!"  I always think Ikea is so modern, but they have something for everyone.  I thought this lamp would be so fun in a little girl's room...or as the lighting for a tea party.

4.  I thought these night lights were so cute.  If you push the top of the head of these pandas, they light up.  I am loving the silicone THINGS that have been stocked in shops recently.

5.  Right after you pay for your goods at the cash registers, Ikea sucks you in again with their little food shop at the exit.  I just had to take a peek.

Here are a bunch of crackers/cookies that are shaped in I's, K's, E's, and A's.

6.  Who doesn't love a good moose shaped pasta?  These reminded me of home (Seattle).

That was a fun trip!
