DIY: Beaded Bracelets

Sham Shui Po is the MECCA of craft supplies.  We don't have the convenience of having a Jo-ann Fabric or Michaels, both of which I miss dearly.  I wake up some days just wanting to drive over there, but remembering that I can't!

Recently, I have been obsessed with making beaded bracelets.  I think it is because I have been at the Summer Sales and have been seeing beaded charm bracelets everywhere.

How to find BEADS in Hong Kong:
1.  From Sham Shui Po MTR Exit A2
2.  You will exit onto Ap Liu Street
3.  Turn left out of the exit and walk towards Nam Cheong Street
4.  Cross Nam Cheong Street and turn right (walking up Nam Cheong Street towards Yu Chau Street)
5.  And you are there!

You may find other craft supplies like ribbons, fabrics, buttons, appliqués, and the like along Yu Chau Street and Ki Lung Streets.

***NOTE:  As far as I know, MOST of the shops will be closed on Sunday!***

Happy crafting for those of you who love crafting!

Tim Ho Wan

Tim Ho Wan was the first Michellin Star restaurant I had ever been to.  A friend from Seattle actually introduced me to its amazingly delicious foods back in December.  Today was the perfect day to check it out because we just happened to be in the neighborhood.

Tim Ho Wan Info:
9 - 11 Fuk Wing Street
Sham Shui Po
8 am - 10 pm

Because there were only two of us, wait was only 10 minutes.

We got the menu while we were waiting in line, so we could tick off the items that we wanted to order. Genius process.  This way, we saved a lot of time...and there were people outside that helped us locate our favorite dim sum dishes (because we couldn't read Chinese).

***NOTE (as always):  I tried to write out the dim sums as best I could in English!***

For two girls who were starving, four dishes were enough.  It was a good lunchtime spent!

Traveling Tuesday: Exploring Sham Shui Po

Today, I met with one of my good friends and went to the Sham Shui Po district, also known as the wholesale district.  If you take the MTR Exit B, it will take you the Toy and Clothing wholesale streets.  Fuk Wing and Fuk Wa Streets are filled with little shops selling toys, children's accessories, stationary, and seasonal things.  During Christmas, there are Christmas trees, ornaments, and decorations.  Right now, during the Easter season, you can find easter eggs and the like.

On the other side of the Sham Shui Po district, which is bisected by Cheung Sha Wan Street, you find the electronic and fabric streets right off of MTR Exit C.  Along Apliu Street, you'll find stops of LED lights, cell phone repair shops, cell phone shops, electronic accessory shops, and other cool things.  If you walk farther along Apliu Street, in the Prince Edward district direction, cross Nam Cheong Street, and towards Poplar Street, you'll come across the fabric streets.  Here you can find all your crafting needs, ribbons, buttons, faux leathers, trimmings, and more.

This is a great district to explore.  When my husband and I used to head down here, we would always find something fun to buy:  mostly board games.  But, definitely a great place to check out!
