TST Wall Art: Subway Edition

Walking from Nathan Road to the Cultural Center of Tsim Sha Tsui (TST) was surprisingly inspiring!  Covering all of the walls were quotes about art, creativity, and opening your mind to the world.

It made me think back to:

1.  my Chemistry teacher's TA used to put quotes on the chalkboard every week.  I remember he once wrote, "The grass is always greener on the other side because you failed to water your own lawn."

2.  my old co-worker used to keep a file on crazy things one of our other co-workers would say.  She also was frustrated once and blurted out, "Another day, another RMB."

3.  Pacific Coffee (Starbuck's rival here in Hong Kong) also provides daily thoughtful quotes for customers to ponder about while they wait in line for coffee.  They say such things as:

Though it seemed a hodgepodge of quotes put together on the walls of the TST subway, they are nice to read as you walk through to the other side.

I thought you all might enjoy reading them as well!  It's a good start/end to the day to get a good quote.

DIY: Wall Art #2

A month or so ago, got a sketchbook filled with empty pages.  My father in-law came over to our place awhile back and saw the paintings that I had freshly fixed to the wall behind our television.  I think he thought it would be a nice gift to give me a sketchbook to put all my ideas into.  I was happy to receive the sketchbook because I never really had a proper one before.  I tucked it under my coffee table, never really thinking I was putting it out of sight and out of mind.  I was just busy with other things.  But, like Poe's beating heart, I could see its sunny yellow cover peeking out from under the coffee table.  Every morning, as I sat my coffee to rest and went about my daily business, it would beat.

And, I was glad that I finally took out the sketchbook because I have been on a painting streak recently.  I like the fact that I can just get out my brushes, paint, a cup of iced tea and throw on some music and paint.  Therapeutic, for sure.

I'm enjoying the Hawaiian Tropics theme of my recent wall art.  I rarely visit Hawaii anymore because I prefer to visit Seattle in the summers (the weather is a lot more comfortable for the summertime me).  I wonder, in my future home, if I should dedicate a room to Hawaiian wall art and another room to Seattle wall art.  I reckon that I might live in my Hawaiian Tropics room during the Hong Kong winter and camp out in my Seattle Cascades room during the rest of the year.

A great afternoon spent...

DIY: Wall Art

I love having colorful, mood-altering, and inspirational things to look at up on my walls.  Since moving into this apartment, I've slowly, over the years, painted different canvasses and hung them up on my walls.  On a rainy day, it's nice to look at the rainbow umbrellas and beach scenes.  On hot summer days, it is nice to look at a bit of the Seattle rain!

I'm not a professional, but who cares!  I do like to paint because it makes the wall art in my own home seem more special.  My husband and I like our living room, in particular, to be our creative space.  And it definitely is getting there!

My first Art Jam painting, which I did in Sheung Wan

My obsession with umbrellas

My sister and I did this Pacific Northwest themed painting

A fun painting of my husband and I
The new addition to our creative space is this Seattle's Pike's Place Market/Monkey Latte Art duo.  My sister and I started on the Seattle theme over the December holidays, so I thought I would add more to our creative space.

I first sketched what I wanted

I then set up my work area

I painted the background and overall colors first, which sort of defeated the purpose of my original sketches

I added details, which I was inspired from online photos and other works of art

The results after drying overnight
If you want something therapeutic...to pass the time...or to get your creative juices flowing, try painting!
