Nursing Rooms @ The Prince Building

This is another blog post informing those who are interested of another Nursing Room, which can be found in the Central District of Hong Kong.  There are quite a few Diaper Changing Rooms around the city, but there are not as many Nursing Rooms around as I'd like!

BB GAGA is probably my favorite site to use…because Nursing Rooms are categorized by districts!

So, back to the point…There is a really nice Nursing Room in the Prince's Building…

To access the room, you have to go to the concierge desk or the customer service desk.  They'll direct you to the escalator (lift) and to the Nursing Room.  The room is available starting from 8 am…though, I'm not sure of the closing time.

Like most of the nursing rooms around the city, they have a really modern locking system, where you just swipe your hand over a panel and the door slides close.  I am always quite weary about this because WHO KNOWS if you do it correctly!  I was in a nursing room that said it was OCCUPIED, but a family was able to open it anyhow.

The room has a basic sink…

There is also a really nice comfy couch…for two…

There is a basic changing station and diaper disposal bin…

It's a private nursing room, which is awesome…the great thing about this one is that there is no loud music blaring from the walls…it's quite a calming space, which I think a lot of people might appreciate.

Iberico & Co.

Today was the day that we decided to try a NEW place at an OLD favorite mall:  Yoho Mall.  We decided to check out Iberico & Co…just because it looked quite nice with its "outdoor" patio/veranda area. 

Plus, the name is Spanish, so we were expecting some fancy Spanish dishes.

Turns out, the lunch menu included an appetizer buffet.  The buffet drink options included lemonade or peach ice tea.

There were about 15-20 things on the buffet bar …all of them labelled…though, I cannot recall what anything was.  But, this photo should suffice.

The lunch set was available from noon till 3 pm.  There were varying options for the main corse, but we opted for the ribs and fish n chips platters.

I always am on the lookout for a tasty bbqed rib…

And fish n chips are always a safe choice when trailing out any new restaurant.

The main dishes were pretty all right, but, I'd say, most people were probably there to fill their bellies up on the appetizer buffet.

In the end, this was a nice change of menu than our usual.  It was nice to sit and people watch for sure. The location and ambience was really nice.  I would definitely come back, but maybe on a date night.  Iberico & Co sort of project a charming and romantic vibe for me.

Tennis, Anyone?

One of my friends is an avid tennis player…when I first met her, she invited me to play tennis.  I'd never really tried tennis…though I have picked up a racquet and hit a few balls across the courts in high school…

When I was walking to a new restaurant around Sai Ching Street, Yuen Long, I noticed that there were some pretty nice tennis court facilities…who knew!

Again, you learn something new every day when you walk around Yuen Long.

The entire facility looked pretty new and really well maintained.

It's not too crowded either…

Most of the courts, in the morning, were pretty barren…

But, there were a few people having a friendly tennis match…

Like most government facilities, you can book the courts at the booking office…

For around $60 HKD, you can book the court for an hour, which isn't that bad!

And it is a nice place to chill out also if you want to watch people playing tennis…

It was pretty nice finding this place out on the out skirts of Yuen Long town.

I wonder what other public facilities Yuen Long has that I haven't found out yet!

Holly Browning Again

Today we ventured over to one of our favorite places in Yuen Long (Yoho Mall!) and popped into Holly Brown.  Holly Brown is found all over Hong Kong.  The last time we were there was a month ago when we visited D Park.  Usually, we order gelatos, but we thought we'd try out something new…plus, it was too early in the day for a gelato.  Instead we opted for the brunch/lunch menu.

The awesome thing about the Yoho Mall Holly Brown is that it is in the prime location to people watch.  It sits at the top of the escalators of one of the entrances.  It is also located right above Simply Life.  So, if you like to check out mall-goers, grab a seat on one of the big sofas and a cup of coffee (which, besides gelatos, is what Holly Brown is known for).

This Holly Brown also has a good number of seating available…AGAIN, they have some really nice comfy couches where a party of 6 can easily squeeze in.  It's a great place to have a coffee and a chat with friends for sure.

There is also a great area out on their patio where you can enjoy the cooler mornings and the sunshine.  It's a great area to sun tan actually…but beware of the HARSH Hong Kong UV rays!!!!

For brunch we got a coffee and a tea.  Both, quite nice!

Though…

If you are someone who needs a little sugar here and a little milk there…you have to ask the counter for those.

We also got a salmon scramble…this was really nice, especially when sandwiched with a spread of butter and jam.

…and an eggs benedict…one had bacon at the base and the other had strips of prosciutto.

The garnish salads (though just garnishes really) were actually quite nice.  They were a great addition to the brunch…even though they were probably there for the color only!

Though brunch wasn't so incredibly fancy, it did hit the spot.  It's nice to get something simple for brunch.  The taste was not that bad…and the proportions were also really good.  And, being from Seattle, it was nice to have something with salmon in it.  It is like preparation for returning to the Pacific Northwest this coming summer!  Costco prepared salmon anyone?

Nursing Rooms @ Yoho Mall

Recently, I've been venturing out and about town with all of my mother friends.  There is no mommy flick that comes to mind about these recent days, but, I think, my days could be described by the flick St.  Elmo's Fire.  Meaning:  I feel like everyone around me is going through the same experiences.  Like the Brat Pack, we've all just graduated from one station in life to a new one, motherhood.

I have noticed that the major challenge when going on these outings has been finding places that have changing tables for soiled diapers and places to nurse babes (D Park, btw, is a haven for comfy nursing rooms!).

There are a few sites online that have pretty good information on TOP Breastfeeding spots around Hong Kong:

The most useful, I think, is the BB Gaga site because they organize baby facilities by districts.

Because I live in Yuen Long (and hoped to focus this blog on Things To Do in Yuen Long), I thought I would write up a little post on one of the nursing rooms in Yoho Mall.  

Most malls, (another) btw, have pretty cold, modern/minimalist types of nursing rooms…Yoho Mall falls in line with that same minimalist-chic type of decor (which isn't the most comfortable, but the amount of amenities in the room make up for the lack of a comfy nursing chair!)

***A look at the Yoho Mall Nursing Room***

1.  A cool thing that some malls have is this Lock and Open type of door.  It not only locks the room, it also turns on an OCCUPIED sign outside.

2.  The space is pretty big, so, if you are a family…there is space for everyone.  The space of the nursing room at Yoho Mall is probably a bit smaller than the size of the first "apartment" I rented in Hong Kong!

3.  The mall also provides a formula bottle warmer and wet wipe warmer.

4.  The changing station is like most malls (the pod!).

5.  There are also a hot water dispensers for mixing up formula.

NOTE:  Nursing covers are also available at the customer service counter (first come- first serve).

Parade in Yuen Long

It was one of those mornings when I found myself in the RIGHT place at the RIGHT time.  I was on my way out when I noticed drums beating to my right along On Ning Road…and down the way a parade was starting up.

Someone told me it was in honor of Tin Hau, but I'm not too sure about it.  I do know that the Labour Day holiday is coming up on Monday…but I sort of think that this little parade was not related to that!

So, if anyone has an idea what this parade was about, please let me know!

Catching the parade was quite exciting!  Though it was small, it was mighty!  Reminds me of the parades back home…we used to go to them all the time in Hawaii.  We used to sit out on straw mats on the main street and wait for the parades to start.  I think, back in the 80s, people still really enjoyed seeing parades…I feel like I've sort of outgrown them.

Outgrowing parades?  Well…the last time I was in Disneyland (3 years ago), I didn't even care to see the parade.

This morning, though…made me relive the memories of the great times I had watching dancers, marching bands, and floats…

Perhaps I should catch parades more often!
