Tuen Mun Beach: Gold Coast

There are a number of ways to get out to Hong Kong's Gold Coast.  One is catching a minibus in Yuen Long.  The easiest way is catching a taxi from the Tuen Mun MTR station (which is the last station on the West Rail Line).

This is a good place to spend the afternoon because there is a little plaza next to the beach (sort of like Stanley, but smaller scale).

Landmark for finding the Gold Coast Plazza

We ate at Ebeneezers before trekking down to Golden Beach and setting up our beach mats.

From the plaza, if you walk to the promenade, you'll see signs that point to Golden Beach, which is about a 5 minute walk from the plaza.

Golden Beach, this week, seemed not as crowded as when the peak of summer was around.  It's because the kids are heading back to school, I guess.  The water was cool, warm nearer the beach, and still perfect for cooling off in the Hong Kong late summer/early autumn weather.

Things you can expect at Golden Beach:
1.  Fair water quality,
2.  Changing/Bathroom facilities,
3.  Lifeguards on duty,
4.  Shady areas to sit under,
5.  Rocky sand (beware!)
6.  And a snack kiosk.
